Amy Shannon:
The person

Amy Shannon: The person.
I have many pieces of myself. Mother. Sister. Daughter. Granddaughter. Friend. Writer. Book Reviewer. Podcast-co host. Even book promoter. This is not about that. This is me, as a person, who suffers daily, and over the years have gotten worse, but wanting to share, maybe in a way to help others. It's in me to help. I share my horrid story, and how I suffer. I found this to be a great outlet. If you suffer, too, I am here for you.

The Brain

The brain is defined (as a noun) "an organ of soft nervous tissue contained in the skull of vertebrates, functioning as the coordinating center of sensation and intellectual and nervous activity." (Oxford Dictionary, 2021). It is also referred to as the cerebrum or encephalon. In another noun form, it is described as intellectual capacity.

The Brain versus my Brain

It is always there sitting on my brain, in my brain. It does move but it is there on different areas, in different areas. I thought those were concussion scars. Nope, impact blow scars worse than concussions. They called it boxers brain.

What do we know about the brain? More and more all the time but there still are mysteries. Not just the brain but the chemicals within the brain. Each impact caused by fists jackhammering against the head followed by the skull then the brain which bounces off the inner skull and before it stops, another impact.

The brain itself doesn’t feel pain. The impact creates pain. After time, when the pain continues, brain determines that the pain is “normal.” The brain must continue to be “normal.” The brain has two halves right and left lobes, for distinct functions or dysfunctions.

The brain as an organ has an “organ” memory. The brain as it functions has its own memories. Even though the brain is only about three pounds, sometimes it feels like it is twenty pounds.

In its function, it controls the entire body’s functions, movements, dreams/nightmares, other organs, thoughts, memory, and speech.
